What Causes Black Stool?

My last T-Mobile stools were black. My colonoscopy was negative and my EDG showed an inactive ulcer in distal esophagus. I keep losing blood. My hemoglobin got down to 6 three times in the last year. I have had 6 pints of blood. I have no energy and always tired. I have been in and out of hospital several times in last year but they can t find where I m bleeding from. My iron was low and they gave me iron IV. It brought it up to 31. I have COPD, Scleraderma, had quadruple bypass .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a hemorrhage in the Upper gastrointestinal system.

I suggest a visit to a gastrologist and an endoscopy confirms the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
