What Causes Black Spot In Tonsil And Mild Sore Throat?

Hello I have a black spot on my tonsil and have had a slight sore throat off and on for about 3 weeks now. Had an ear infection that was treated with antibiotics but the sore throat comes and goes. I just looked at my throat and it s red and there is a black spot. What is wrong with me and should I go see my doctor?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query .The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards condition called strep throat ,which further causing tonsilitis and ear infection or visa versa through Eustachian canal (small tube which connect middle ear to throat.

Usually recurrence of infection occur when we do not complete the antibiotics course properly , do not follow complete instruction given by doctor,in case of tonsilitis and chrinic smoking .You should take recurring sore throat serious because of itd complications and get it treated properly.

I would suggest you to again visit doctor/ENT specialist(ear ,nose, throat) for proper evaluation to find out the exact cause .Doctor may order swab test or blood test to rule out viral infection or allergic reaction. Doctor may prescribe antibiotic course like penicillin or amoxicillin , decongestant and anti inflammatory like asprin/ibuprofen which also relieve from pain.

I would also suggest you to quit smoking immediately i(if you smoke), do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day and drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrate.

The black spot on your tonsil is probably a sign of healing which is good thing .Sometimes it occurs due to antibiotics or minor injury consult your doctor about it.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
