What Causes Black Specks In The Urine?

My husband has type II diabetes, and when he just went to the bathroom, he has black specks in his urine...like pepper. He has had kidney stones in the past. Any ideas on what this is? He doesn't have health insurance right now, and refuses to go to the ER.

Urologist 's  Response
Black specks in irine with history of urolithiasis is suggestive of recurrence of Stone disease.
As he does not have insurance, u can get baseline tests namely... urine routine and ultrasound KUB. This will give an idea of type of stone and location or urinary infection.
For pain in abdomen, u can give him drotaverine. If severe pain, then he may require injectable pain killers.
But depending in location and size of stone he may require survey. Hence u must consult urologist after reports or u may contact me for next plan of management.
