What Causes Black Eye, Bruises And Swelling On Cheek Post Injury?
My 3 year old grandson fell at school and badly banged the left side of his face. He had a very bad black eye and bruises and swelling on his cheek. Now that the eye is better, we notice a hard lump on his check and a line on his check that almost divides the cheek area in half. Is this something that we should be concerned about or will it heal in time. What is it?
Welcome at HCM I have gone through your query and being your doctor I completely understand your health concerns... It is common to develop black eye after trauma to face particularly forehead. Usually black eye takes at least two weeks to resolve... As far as swelling at cheek is concerned it is due to inflammatory exudate secondary to trauma. It will take two weeks to resolve but you should get an x ray of face done to look for any fracture to maxilla... Meanwhile take rest do regular icing and use acetaminophen to relieve pain. If it is not settling or swelling increasing or is associated with swallowing problem then immediately meet your doctor... Get well soon Regards Dr saad Sultan
