What causes black discoloration on the shoulder after a surgery?

I just had a shoulder replacement due to osteoarthritis this last Thursday. surgery went well doc said he took care of bone spurs also.. My question is does the bone spur part of surgery cause major bruising? I am almost black not purple or blue from my shoulder blade to half of my breast. Is the normal? Nobody is in on the holiday weekend

The surgery itself would cause bruising because there would be damage to some of the blood vessels in the area.

This would improve as you heal but if you remain unsure or there is worsening then you should see your doctor for assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
