What Causes Bald Spots During Alopecia Areata?

Hello I have diagnosed with alopecia areata last year may 2013. A bald spot on the scalp which was appeared on the left side of the head above my ear. I have got two steriod shots and applied tugain 5% for the hair to come back. Now i had gone for hair cut and observed a small patch in the same place where it was observed last time. I am scared now since it might get increase in size later like how it was happened last time. Kindly advice what should i do now?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of alopecia areata. My treatment advice is –

1. Use a good herbal hair oil and shampoo for routine use.
2. Apply a tacrolimus 0.03 %ointment twice daily on it.
3. Take an iron supplement and vitamin b12 supplement once daily for 3 months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
