What Causes Bad Taste In Throat?

Hello, I have had a bad taste in my throat for about a month or so. It s hard to describe the taste because I have never had that taste before, maybe it can be described as moldy or metallic. Honestly I m not sure. I have tried many things and it just won t go away. My throat feels very dry and although I do drink plenty of water, it s still feels dry. I get little to no mucus at all. I do tend to get a lot of ear wax in my ears so I don t know if that s somehow related to the taste (or anything at all.) Please help.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi. Metallic taste in our mouth can be from a variety of reasons described below. A metallic or bitter taste in the mouth is also called as dysgeusia. In my opinion they are unrelated to your propensity to develop excessive ear wax.

The most common causes of metallic taste in the mouth is due to zinc, iron and multivitamin deficiency (Vitamin B complex). Other conditions that can impair your sense of taste include a stuffy nose due to allergies or the common cold, a sinus infection, dry throat ( due to obstructive sleep apnoea) and certain medications such as rifampicin and other antibiotics. A metallic taste during pregnancy is a common occurrence as well.

It is recommended that you take some multivitamin supplements once a day for about a month and consult with your physician to evaluate the possible causes mentioned above. A neurological consult is indicated if everything else is ruled out.

Do let me know how this turns out and if I can be of any other help.
