What Causes Bad Breath After Undergoing Root Canal And Tooth Filling?

I had fillings on all 4 of my back teeth. After that I still had trouble with my bottom back left tooth. So I had a root canal and a permanent crown placed. I am still having problems when I chew. Also this is the same tooth I had a silver filling for over 20 years. Should I just get this tooth pulled because I am having bad breath and I think it s coming from that tooth.I brush, floss and use mouth wash 3 times a day. I have seen an ENT Dr and GI and they still can t figure out why I am having this bad breath problem. Please help!! Thanks

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query .As you mention in query that you had silver filling 20 years ago and your ENT Dr and GI didn't able to figure out the exact cause of bad breath .The most probable cause of your bad breath is silver filling .

Because after that much long time of restoration or filling ,it starts deteriorating and start affecting surrounding tissue which further cause .Another reason for bad breath is micro leakage in silver filling .

I would suggest you to visit dentist for proper evaluation .Dentist may go for refilling if tooth condition is sound otherwise extract it.

For now you should do warm saline rinses 2-3 times daily and chew sugar free gum.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
