Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking lipitor about a month ago. Since then I am having back pain. I also had a hip replacement two years ago and had no problems until I took Lipitor. The leg where I had the replace is hurting all day and night. It hurts to move and walk a certain times. When I get off car it hurts so much I can t move for awhile. Could the Lipitor be the cause of the pain or should I go back to the hip specialisyt?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
hi, thanks for asking. I understand your work. - Lipitor is a statin group of drug given for controlling high cholesterol....It is known to cause muscle cramps, stiffness or weakness/ joint pains too, this might have troubled you. The problem would stop after stopping the drug within a few weeks. & joint reassessment should follow. - still possibility of replaced joint causing the problem (pressure on nerve ) must not be neglected.. - The low back ache you have may be the cause of hip pain you have....please get it investigated( MRI) -Osteoporosis / vitamin D deficiency can enhance the symptoms caused by any of above factors, Thanks
