What Causes Back Pain Radiating Towards Tailbone, Buttocks And Back Of Leg?

Im a 24 year old female and I ve had back pain for a few months now.. Im not over weight so thats not the issue. I ve been to the doctor twice. The pain starts in the middle of my back and goes down to my tailbone and sometimes I get sharp pains going through my butt cheek into the back of my leg. I ve tried anti inflammatory meds, muscle relaxers, heat, ice, stretching and non of it works. It hurts to lay, stand, sit, bend, ect. I can barley lean over far enough to tie my shoes and I can t even pick my 2 year old up without tearing up in pain! I just need some ideas what could be wrong with me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms are due to some pathology of your lumbo-sacral vertebrae or intervertebral discs which causes a pressure on the intervertebral nerves. An MRI of lumbosacral vertebrae should be done. Forward bending, and strenuous exercises should be avoided. Sometimes use of lumbosacral belt for a short period may be helpful.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
