What Causes Astigmatism?

I am very confused and need help what to do. I went to eye dr. For first time since grade school, I m 41 now, on Sat with my husband. My husbands exam lasted about 15 min or so. Mine was less than 5. He told me I have astigmatism, which I figured. I have had problems with night vision since my teens. Lately it seems worse and the guide on the TV is slightly blurry. Did a few 1 or 2 with me did not ask me to read letters just asked if I could see the line. He gave me RX of OD -0.75. Cyl. -0.75. Axis. 115 OS. -o.25. Cyl. -1.00 axis. 062 I didn t feel right about my exam so I went yesterday for another exam with another dr. He spent about 20 min with me asked all kinds of questions. Put dye in my eye etc...his RX was. OD +.75. Cyl. -1.00. Axis 110 OS +1.0. Cyl. -1.50. Axis 067 So one DR states I am farsighted, the other nearsighted. Do I get a third opinion or use the second Dr. RX that seemed more thorough? I just don t want to mess my eyes up. I have not worn glasses before so I have no idea what I m even looking for in a RX or how it is suppose to look seeing through them. I didn t think I was farsighted as I don t seem to have difficulties seeing up close. But after the exam he asked me to read the same line I just read with all the equipment in front of me and to my surprise I couldn t read the line I had just read easily. Please, your advise would greatly help. Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult an ophthalmologist and get evaluated. It is a common refractive error.

You will improve with spectacles or contact lenses. Newer techniques like LASIC also be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
