What Causes Astigmatism In Eyes Post A Bout Of Eye Infection?

Hello, I am a 28 years old and I ve had a problem for about a week. I suddenly developed slight astigmatism in both eyes, after a long work day. I think I had some conjunctivitis or at least allergies since my eyes were itchy and sore. Will this go away on due time or do I need to worry? I m already using antibiotic drops to be on the safe side (Tobradex)

Hi,

Conjunctivitis can cause astigmatism due to inflammation of cornea (which changes the shape of cornea). This change may be temporary which go away itself after the treatment of conjunctivitis. However in some cases these changes can have long term permanent effects. Hence in such cases, if you have the symptoms of blurry vision, foreign body sensations in the eye, increased sensitivity to light etc. then you should go to an ophthalmologist for the treatment as well as for minimizing the complications.
