Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Appetite Loss And Diarrhea After Taking Magnesium Citrate For Constipation?
I took Magnesium Citrate for constipation 6 days ago. I now still have diarrhea still. I have completely lost my appetite, however I do not want to eat or drink anything. But I am feeling weak. Should I talk Metamucil or Fiber-con or go to the hospital?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Magnesium citrate.
Magnesium citrate when used alone in the treatment of constipation can cause diarrhea, dehydration, weakness and loss of appetite.
Take plenty of oral fluids, juices, fruits, etc. For the symptomatic relief of constipation you may take Metamucil tablets.
Since you had constipation of 6 days duration, I would advice you to consult a surgeon for proper evaluation and rule out the possible underlying condition.
Hope to have answered your query.
