What Causes Anxiety, Headache And Rapid Heart Rate While Taking Kenalog Shot?

I saw my ENT yesterday for allergies. He gave me a 80 mg injection of Kenalog in my hip. He didn t tell me it was a steroid. Otherwise I would have said no to the shot, as I have side effects from steroids. Today I had anxiety, headache, shaky, weakness, heart beating hard, and my blood pressure is up. I saw my gynecologist today for a pre-op appointment as I m scheduled for a hysterectomy in 2 weeks. When I told her I had the shot yesterday, she said I may have to delay the surgery until the Kenalog is out of my system as steroids can affect healing. How long will is take for the Kenalog to be out of my system? Can I help flush it out by drinking more water? Thank you

Hello,

The metabolism of steroid takes place in mitochondria of the liver as well as adrenal cortex region with remainder being excreted as nitrogenous waste products. Usually it takes around 3-4 working days for body to eliminate the residual of the steroid metabolism products, increasing the water intake can fasten to some extent the issue, not much greater level. However, a hysterectomy in 2 weeks has not to be worried about by single shot of steroid before this period.
