What Causes An Itchy Rash On The Wrist?

Hello, I have an itchy rash. Small red welts that look like mosquito bites and then turn into little red bumps, there also seem to be a couple of white/grey lines around my wrist. It is quite spread out over my body - wrists, legs, torso, nipples. It comes and goes in intense waves. I haven t eaten anything different or used any new soap. I have had it for about 3 weeks - it changes areas of my body. It started on my foot, then went away and my wrists started itching etc. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the rash is symmetrical very likely it is an eczema. Another possible cause of the rash is scabies, a parasite infection of the skin.

The best way to determine which is the cause of the rash is a visit with the doctor because the way the rash looks gives a lot of clues to the possible cause and needed treatment.

Treatment of eczema differs from that of scabies so it is important to differentiate between the two.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
