What Causes Allergic Reaction Symptoms While Playing Hockey?
My 11year old son has recently developed allergic reaction type symptoms...difficulty breathing...when he plays hockey. He said it feels like his throat is closing up and he gasps for air. We Friedan albuterol inhaler, but it didn't fix the problem. Could he be allergic to his mouthguard? It is new and was made for him at the dentist.

If he only uses it in this setting and this is the only instance that he experiences difficulty breathing then it is possible. More so if there is a rash in the area of contact.
It would be important to determine if he has any other instance of shortness of breath with activity. His doctor may also to determine if he has any other symptoms such as chest pain or palpitations which may indicate a more serious cause.
He should be taken to his doctor for an assessment to determine the cause of his symptoms.
