What Causes Acid Reflux, Globus Sensation And Loss Of Appetite?

Hi I am waiting for an endoscopy I have had a really bad episode of acid reflux which I am now taking medication for . I have what feels like a lump in my throat and have no appetite. When I eat I feel like my food goes down my pipe a lot slower and feel full very quickly . I am going on a family holiday very soon and panicking I will be okay when I am overseas. Most of my soreness is in the middle of my back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I understand your concern.

You have not mentioned your age.
Foreign sensation in throat, gastric reflux and loss of appetite may indicate oesophageal or peptic ulcer with or without H.pylori infection /some mass or malignancy in chest or neck area.

If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Go on with endoscopy and CT chest with consultation from gastroenterologist.
-PPIs like omeprazole once in morning for 1 month duration help decrease reflux.
If H.Pylori found, antibiotics are generally given with omez under prescription.
-Avoid hot, spicy ,high fat content food.Avoid alcohol and caffeine which may exaggerate the situation.
-Keep a gap of atleast 3 hours between meals and bed time.Sleep with head elevation.
-Multivitamin supplementation and small frequent meals because of loss of appetite.

Further specific management depends upon results of investigations.

Hope this information helps.
Thanks.
