What Causes Abdominal Pain Post Colon Resection Surgery?

Hi had colon resection March 20 have an illeostomy hopefully reversal in two weeks. My issue has been for a couple weeks upper stomach pains like super soar muscles. Just doesn t get better and some paint the lower left side where the diverticulitis was removed. Don t know what it could be. Thank you.

Hi,

The commonest reasons for your symptoms can be one the following:
* Muscle like pain in the upper abdomen after ileostomy can be due to local inflammation or collection in the abdominal wall that is easily missed.
* The pain on the left side of abdomen can be due to residual inflammation post colectomy or again collection of pus or so.

The best way to get a proper diagnosis is a CT scan or MRI of the whole abdomen may pick up many a reasons that can not be picked on clinical examination, relevant tests of blood, urine and stool. All this will a proper cause of the pains and allow for proper medical and/or surgical management.
