What Causes Abdominal Pain In A Person With Pancreatitis?

My 21year old son was just in the hospital 21/2 weeks ago for pancreatitis. He s really not much of a drinker st all but last night he decided he would have a couple beers and now he s having the same abdominal pain again. The doctors don t really have a cause for his pancreatitis but he was told that he can t drink but being 21 he didn t use good judgement and thought he would be fine since it wasn t very much. Do you think he needs to go back to the hospital again even though it wasn t very much or will it likely subside with a little bit of time.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain would subside on its own but the fact that he was hospitalized for just over 2 weeks for pancreatitis means that it would be best that he is assessed.

He should have blood tests and may need imaging such as ultrasound, to take a look at the abdomen as well.

Though it would be difficult at his age, he needs to avoid alcohol.

I hope this helps
