What Causes Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stool?

On the 4th of May 2017 I had a situation whereby I had a severe abdominal/intestinal pain. By 5th of May, I was stooling with difficulty. I began to have slight mucus and blood in my stool. Stooling was difficult and painful. Because I could not immediately afford an hospital bill, I picked up flagyl and ciprotab from a pharmacist. I regretted doing this because I ought to have been diagnosed and administered by a physician. approximately 2-3 days after this, I had arelief but I neve knew which of the drug was working. Erroneously too I stopped taking these medicine the moment I had a relief and a seeming recovery from the condition. It is now approx 3 weeks after (31st May), I have begun to have a slight re occurence of those symptoms (abdominal pain and some fever). Please, what should I do? I wish to be administered correctly.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, though you should have avoided self-administration of antibiotics and preferably stool cultures and analysis alongside renal function and serum electrolytes may have been tested as some conditions associated with bloody diarrhoea can get worsened with antibiotics and may cause kidney failure but improvement in symptoms suggest that you have not been affected by any such strain and if symptoms recurred after getting routine examination by your primary care physician these antibiotics can be used for full course including Cipro and Flagyl along with probiotics and oral rehydration salts. Antispasmodic like drotaverine can be used as well. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
