What causes abdominal pain after suffering from CSF infections?

My daughter has been treated for 15 months with IV antibiotics for many failed VP SHUNTS. Several CSF infections one being an abscess around tip of the cathetar in her abdomen 7 months ago. For the last several days she again experienced RUQ abdomen pain with no other symptoms. No fever normal white count and slightly elevated CRP. Ct findings stated STRANDING around VP SHUNT CATHETAR. No obvious abscess. She was sent home and is to continue IV antibiotics and return if additional problems arise. What exactly is stranding and is this something that means infection is beginning??
