Hello,

The diarrhea can be antibiotic induced. Clostridium difficle is a bacteria which causes diarrhea on people with prolonged antibiotic therapy. My advice for your son is:
1) Stop antibiotic Amoxicillin
2) Do a laboratory analysis of stool sample
3) Drink plenty of water, oral rehydration solution is better (avoid dehydration)
4) Have proper nutrition (do not stop oral intake of food)
5) Consult a physician, have a clinical examination done, and start appropriate antibiotics for this diarrhea.

Be careful if there is excessive vomiting, abdominal distension, frank blood or coffee colored stool. If the symptoms are mild the diarrhea will resolve on its own.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Meera Rajeev
