What Causes Abdominal And Back Pain During Pregnancy?

I m 38 weeks pregnant. I have been experiencing abdominal and back pain. I m weak, can t walk for more then two minutes before my legs get weak and I have to sit. Sitting in painful, laying down is worse. I feel faint when doing anything other then sleeping which has been very difficult as well. I have only been able to sleep a total of three hours a day, all at separate hours. When I try to sleep I m in too much pain to be comfortable. What can I do for pain management and sleep? Can these be indicators of something wrong?

Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic. Motherhood is really a tough job. Well, during 38th week of pregnancy, the fetus is big enough and occupies most of the abdomen and pushes the diaphragm up which causes difficulty in expansion of lungs leading to early breathlessness. The blood also becomes diluted because of hormonal changes. Back pain is because of extra weight increase during the pregnancy. There is averagely 11-18kgs of weight gain during pregnancy. Abdominal pain can be also because of uterine contractions in between or due to bowel movements in excess of pressure inside the abdomen.
As you are saying that you have already completed 38weeks of pregnancy, this means that the fetus is already developed and can be delivered anytime.
Please meet your obstetrician for induction of labour and child birth. That will only relieve your pain now.
Happy motherhood.
