What Causes A Temporary Paralysis After A Break Up?

When my boyfriend broke up with me, he was crying and very emotional. This was very strange because he is not an emotional person at all. He couldn’t move; it was almost like he was paralyzed. Fortunately after a few minutes he could move again. It was really scary and obviously sad because he was breaking up with me. Could you explain the temporary paralysis? I just don’t understand how that happened, and he was not exaggerating.
