What Causes A Swollen Knee After Taking Hydrazine And Metoprolol?

I have taken hydrazine for several years with metropolol every day. Within the last few months I have had swollen joints, red, very painful which seem to rotate to different parts of my body..right knee, hand under thumb, under the left toe....foot swollen, red, and very painful. My Dr. stopped this medication 2 days ago and put me on med 200mg for malaria/inflammation. The pain in my foot is worse. Can I take ibuprofen to help with the pain.

Hi & Welcome.
Based on the history given you seem to have developed Hydralazine induced lupus erythematosus.

It is an autoimmune disorder that can arise months to years after exposure to drugs prescribed to treat various medical conditions like Hydralazine for hypertension.

Most of the time, symptoms go away within several days to weeks after stopping the medicine that caused the condition. However, I advise you take Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen for the symptomatic relief from the painful joints.

You are also advised to consult a rheumatologist for further evaluation and certain lab tests such as CBC, kidney function tests, ESR, antihistone antibody, antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) ECG, and chest x-ray may show signs of pleuritis or pericarditis (inflammation around the lining of the lung or heart).

Hope the advice given above would be useful.
