What Causes A Rash On The Back After Taking Pepto-Bismol?
I recently developed a rash on my back after taking Pepto Bismol for a digestive problem. For several days my stool was extremely black colored, but has returned to a more normal color after 3-4 days. At about this same time I developed a very itchy rash on my back, chest and a few locations on my arms and lower legs. I also have developed a cough with white colored mucus. Any ideas of what is going on with my rash and cough. I have been considering taking mucinex, but it warns about not using if a rash is present.
Hello i have just read your query and from what you describe it appears that you are having a side effect of Pepto-bismol.
Although the occurrence of rashes are quite rare but it can occur in some patients.
Pepto-Bismol causes upper respiratory tract infection in 2% of patients which explains your cough with mucus and also stool abnormality in 1% which explains your dark coloured stools. .I suggest you discontinue that drug altogether .
It would be better if you had mentioned what kind of digestive problem you have so as to enable me to help you with that.
Hope my advice is of some benefit to you.Goodluck
