What Causes A Rash Behind The Leg?

I have a rash behind my left leg, just above the knee near the fold. I am diabetic and overweight. The rash is about 3 inchs long and 1 and 1/2 inches wide, irregular pattern. It itches, and has what appears to be raised light colored spots. It is very painful and is better when sitting or lying down. I also have varicose veins in that area, quite pronounced. I am 66 years old, on insulin 4 times per day as well as cholesterol and heart medication. Non drinker non smoker and nothing has changed except this rash appeared. I have had the shingles shot in the past 12 months.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The rash behind the leg seems to be related to a fungal infection.

I suggest using antifungal cream for local application.

I also suggest maintaining the area dry and clean.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
