What Causes A Raised Rash And Burning Sensation In The Lips?

At the advice of my dentist I began brushing with a coconut and baking soda mix instead of my toothpaste a few months ago. In early December on my upper lips I began having what looked like severely chapped lips and my lips tend to burn now, especially around the outside. Around my upper lips it now looks like a raised rash. I have been using vaseline on them as everything else seems to burn.

Hello,

You have symptoms of raised rash and burning sensation in the lips which could be due to the removal of the natural moist layer from lips and could be due to an allergic reaction. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Avoid exposure to sunlight.
- Take vitamin B2 and niacin supplement.
- Avoid sharp and spicy food intake
- Suck on ice pops.
- Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Apply lip balm rich in SPF 15.
If the condition keeps on persisting, then you should consult oral pathologist for proper examination and rule out other systemic conditions. The doctor may start treatment accordingly and take antihistamine medications to prevent allergy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
