What Causes A "crackling Noise" After A Head Trauma?

I received a head trauma 6 days ago and had a CT scan done with the following results: 1. Nondisplaced fracture through the roof of the right orbit including extending to the orbital rim. There is also a mildly depressed fracture involving the medial aspect of the right orbital roof with fracture approaching the right fovea ethmoidalis and fracture fragment abutting the right superior oblique muscle. And 2. Paranasal sinus disease as described. I went to an ophthalmologist and he said all my vision was fine and that the fractures would heal on their own over time. My question; I went for a run tonight and on every impact I hear a faint “crackling” noise in the area above my eyes (mostly on the right side). Is this okay? I’m 36 years old , 5'9", 195# and in good health.

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that despite your severe head injury, you are able to do your routine activities.

This crackling movement might be due to fractured bone edges rubbing each other while you were running. This movement is micro movement. It occurred due to running. And this sound was appreciated by you due to the bone conduction of sound to both ears.
Another reason could be due to some collection in soft tissue on right side at injury site. Movement of fluid while you were running caused this sound.

I am giving you some tips to relieve pain and this sound
: Avoid straining activities for 2-3 weeks till all external swelling disappears.
: You can apply icepacks at injury site if no wound.
: Avoid lying on right side.
: You can take Diclofenac sodium or any other anti-inflammatory drug after proper prescription.
: Any fracture needs approximately 3-6 months to completely heal. Take good protein rich diet.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
