What Causes A Pop And Grating Sound Near Ear When Opening Mouth?

A few days ago, I opened my mouth and heard a pop accompanied with a grating of cartilidge sound (hard to explain) and what sounded like a rush of air. The sound was heard in the space where my lower jaw meets my ear. It may be a eustachian tube problem but with my history of arthritis, I wasn t sure.
