What Causes A Persistent Pimple On The Neck With Itching And Foul Discharge?
On the back of my husbands neck he has a very small pimple like thing which you can only feel! He has had this for years. The odd time it gets itchy and he picks at it, and the most awful smell permeates! I just put some antibiotic salve on this! Any idea what it is? Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, A pimple like lesion on back of neck which gets itchy and releases a smelly discharge is suggestive of a non-neoplastic lesions like an epidermal cyst or a sebaceous cyst. The foul smelling material can be the keratinous debris accumulated in the cyst. Management of such kind of lesions is surgical removal. However, a clinical assessment is required so I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and thus plan further treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
