What Causes A Painful Lump On The Buttocks?

I have pain in my left buttocks that shoots down my leg to the middle of my calf and also up the left side of my lower back just above my buttocks. I also feel a consistent painful knot in my left buttocks which seems to be where the pain originates. Also hurts when I m sitting and try to laugh. Any ideas? Thanks Aaron

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
A painful knot in your buttock could be due to an abscess forming since a mechanical pain is less likely. I will advice you take a pain/antiflammatory medication like ibuprofen. If it doesn't go, i will advice you meet a physician to examine the place and judge the need for anti-staph antibiotics like cloxacilline.
Best regards
