What Causes A Painful Bump On The Knee?

Hi my knee has a problem where it has a huge bump on the outside and it s on the right knee. I ve tried icing and painmeds because it hurts to go downstairs but not to walk but it feels weird in general. It also hurts to squat or lunge and it s a hard bump. I was wondering what possibly might be wrong and do I need an xray or something? My doctor already said that she thought it was swelling but its been a month and hasn t gone away but my atheltic trainer said she thinks something definitely is wrong.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you are having knee bursitis or meniscal cyst. I would suggest you to show it to doctor as soon as possible and get x ray and MRI of the knee joint. This will confirm the diagnosis.
If after that there is bursa inflammation present then you will need steroid injection and may be excision of bursa.
If there is meniscal cyst then you might need arthroscopic excision of the cyst.
At present you can continue with hot water fomentation and Bruce tablet for pain relief.
