What Causes A Pain In The Chest While Coughing, Nasal Congestion And Lack Of Appetite?

I am having very specific pain in my chest when I cough (sharp stabbing, but only when I cough), it is right chest and an area about the size of a half dollar. I am current on my flu shot, but someone else in the house was tested positive for strand A two days ago. I have some nasal congestion, but otherwise just have a lack of appetite. Wondering if this could just be pain from the coughing or something more

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Strand A positive indicates a virus with single strand RBS. The strong cough inducing sharp stabbing chest pain indicates the involvement of lung parenchyma or pleura in the portion in the infection. You need a chest x-ray and sputum examination followed by specific treatment of the infection. Consult a physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
