What Causes A Missed Period And Spotting After Unprotected Intercourse?

Hello. I have been off of the patch for about a month. The first day of my last period was Jan 2,2014 (it last for seven days). My husband and I had unprotected sex a few times since then. It is not almost the end of Feb 2014 and I have not had a period yet. Also I have not taken a pregnancy test yet. In addition, after I went to the bathroom ( pee) today when I wiped dark red and brown blood was on the toilet paper only.

Hallow Dear,

After being off from the contraceptive protection, there are always chances of pregnancy due to unprotected sex. You had unprotected sex many times. So you have to find out the evidences for pregnancy.

Though pregnancy is characterized by absence of bleeding (menses), occasionally some bleeding may show around the expected menses.

You have following options to ascertain your pregnancy status:

1. Perform pregnancy test on overnight morning first urine sample a week after the missed period; earlier, the test may report false negative.

2. Opt for Beta hCG test on the blood 10 days after the last unprotected intercourse.

This should resolve your dilemma.
