What causes a lump on the tailbone?

I have a hard lump on right side of tailbone, it is very hard much like a boney growth? Tender when pressed on and seems to be connected to some new back pain.. I have not really had a lot of back pain but this is almost like my sacroiliac is inflamed but the tailbone is getting my attention for sure...I am very active ,49 yr old female 5 4 135 pounds and In pretty good physical condition.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

In most cases, this is just a swollen lymph node which doesn't require any specific treatment.

Also, considering your description this may be some other benign subcutaneous lesion such as lipoma, fibroma or atheroma and if there are no skin changes such as redness, pus discharge or pain and fever then you should not be worried since it can be easily surgically removed under local anesthesia.

Then it there are doubts it can be sent to the patohistologic analysis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
