What Causes A Lump In The Throat?

I feel like there is a lump in my throat off and on for years now. Xray was done about 5 years ago doctor stated nothing there that it was acid reflux and that was it no reccomendations from there. Yesterday an ENT put a scope in my nose and down my throat and said nothing is there go to the GI. Usually when I wake up in the morning it's not there.

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum

After going through your history, I do presume you could be suffering from Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux. Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, or LPR, is the medical term for gastric reflux.

This happens when food and acid from the stomach and upper digestive tract reflux – or flow backward – all the way up into the back of the throat, and sometimes even into the back of the nasal airway. The regurgitated acid thus burns the throat and induces inflammation of the mucosa. The inflamed mucosa gives rise to a sensation of the lump in the throat.

You may require medicines such as proton pump inhibitors and prokinetics for the treatment of same. Consult an apt Gatro-enetrologist.

Meanwhile, drink plenty of warm water, avoid coffee/tea, fizzy drinks, chilled food and beverages.

Regards
