What Causes A Lump Behind The Ear?

I have a small swollen area/mass under my right ear and near where my jaw articulates. Mildly tender to the touch. It has been present for about two weeks. At first, I thought swollen lymph node. Since it has persisted and getting a bit bigger, I m beginning to get concerned. I have a doctors appointment this Thursday. Thoughts?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As the swelling is getting bigger without treatment and it is painful to touch, it seems that you are having infection either in the ear or regarding TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) cavity.

I would advise that you should start taking antibiotic to combat the bacterial infection. You can take Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days.

Meanwhile if your scheduled appointment day comes, you should keep the appointment and let the doctor clinically examine you so that the diagnosis can be confirmed. If you feel relief with this antibiotic, do complete the course of five days.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
