A blood clot in the aorta is uncommon for someone your age. I would see a vascular surgeon (someone who specifically treats the aorta). Causes can be due to aneurysm, blood clots coming from the heart, lupus, vasculitis, or infection. I would certainly ask your doctor if you need to be on blood thinners. I would ask your doctor to perform an ultrasound of your heart, check some blood work for conditions that make you more prone to clotting (hyper coagulable conditions such as Factor V leiden, proven C/S deficiency, anti-phospholipid antibody, lupus anticoagulant). I would certainly find someone who could give you a better answer. A vascular surgeon would be your best bet.
