What Causes A Large Rash Beneath The Ankle Despite Using Lamisil, Cortisone And Benadryl Cream?

Hi there, I have a rash the size of a quarter on the side of my foot, below my ankle. I noticed it over a week ago, after I was outside with flip flops trimming some plants and bushes. I have been treating it with cortisone cream, benadryl cream, neosporin and, most recently lamisil. It still won t go away. It s pinkish with little red dots dispersed throughout. It itches when I wear socks (which I wear most of the time). Any idea what it might be? Is there any chance it could be ringworm - even though I don t have pets and haven t come into contact with anyone with ringworm (nor do I go to the gym)?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history, you are having eczema, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm-B cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
