Hello i am a 32 year old male. about 2 years ago i noticed a very large deep dent on the back of my head. Its about 5cm long and 3 wide and seems to be getting bigger. I went to see my doctor who said it has more then likely been there all my life but i feel i would have noticed it long before now. Have you any idea what could have caused this and is it possible it could have been caused by my head resting against a hard surface. thanks.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You could request that your doctor send you for a simple CT of the skull. If you believe the skull ridge is changing in size then, you should have a reliable person (such as your doctor) do an exact measurement and then, keep track of this on a monthly or bimonthly basis. If you can demonstrate actually changing size, shape, contour (or texture of the overlying skin) then, you've got a reason for concern. Otherwise, as hard to believe as it may sound to you, you've always had "the bump", you just didn't know it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
