What Causes A Knot Above The Umbilicus?

For the past few weeks my navel has had soreness and pain around it and that pain subsided last week, and this week after a few days of rigorous workouts at the gym, I noticed a knot above my navel . There is no pain associated with this knot except that to touch that I m concerned about. Is this something that I need to see a physician about ASAP or can this be strain muscle? I am 56 years old with no known health problems and no body piercing or tattooed.

Brief Answer:
This may be an umbilical hernia due to the hard workouts.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM.
This may be an umbilical hernia due to the hard workouts. An umbilical hernia occurs when the intestine or other tissues bulge through this weak spot around the belly button (umbilicus). An umbilical hernia in adults usually occurs when too much pressure is put on a weak section, such as the navel. At the beginning it can be painful, but after that it remains just a swelling or bulge near the umbilical area which tends to get bigger over time.
You should see a surgeon, who will perform a physical exam to determine if you have or not an umbilical hernia. The doctor will see if the hernia can be pushed back into the abdominal cavity (reducible). Your doctor may take an X-ray or perform an ultrasound on the stomach area to ensure that there are no complications.
You may need surgery to treat it, especially if it gets bigger or becomes painful.
Meanwhile you should take always a band around your belly to put the knot in, except when you are lied down.
You should limit your workouts.

Hope this is helpful.
