What Causes A High Blood Sodium Level?

my granddaughter has been hospitalized today for blood sodium level of 150. What could of caused this increase. I do not believe that she is dehydrated. She has been having headaches 2 to 3 times a weak and today was short of breath and had some chest pain which made us take her to a urgent care facility and they sent her to the hospital to be admitted. HI,
Welcome to HCM,
I read your query and i appreciate your concern regarding this issue.
She is suffering from Hypernatremia (Elevated sodium level in blood)
it can be caused be
- Dehydration due to vomiting,Diarrhea, High fever or Excessive sweating.
- Dehydration due to poor intake of fluids.
- Inc. amount of salt in diet.
- Due to some endocrine problem like Diabetes insipidus , Cushings disease etc
- Hyperventilation
For treatment
they will give her
- IV fluids to maintain the hydration level.
Do not worry about it the level of sodium is not too much high.
According to me its all because of Dehydration which will be settled after maintaining hydration level.
- keep her admitted for close monitoring.

Hope so it will be helpful.
