I have noticed a hard mass in the shaft of my penis. After researching I m thinking it may be Peyronie s disease. I don t have any severe curvature but I ve noticed the last few months when ercect my penis has a slight indention at the sight of the lump. What has caused this and what should I do? See my urologist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Thank you for your question.

Peyronie's disease consists in a fibrous plague (like some type of scar in the skin) that develops in the shaft of the penis. Symptoms include: pain during erection, angulation of the penis, a plague (or as you described it a mass) and in advanced cases inability to have sexual intercourse. The fibrous plague prevents the veins and arteries of the penis to accommodate blood in order to provide a full erection. Also the pain and the angulation might get in the way of having a pleasurable penetration.
In my opinion you need to be patient and see how the situation will evolve. You didn't refer any pain during erection, angulation that prevents you from having a normal sexual intercourse or problem with the quality of your erection. Some cases can last around 18-24 months and resolve spontaneously.
But since this problem can affect your sexual life, if you feel anxious about the situation you can consult an urologist. He will examine your mass and evaluate the possible need for an ultrasound of the penis. There are currently several treatment strategies that you can undergo to resolve your problem.

I hope this helped.
All the best,
Dr. Alma
