Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 5 year old (otherwise healthy) son has had a low grade fever for three days, a sore throat and I just noticed very swollen papillae on the back of his tongue. Does this sound like a viral infection? If so, is there specific medication he needs to be on, or will the virus subside on its own if we continue to keep him comfortable with Tylenol, ice cubes etc.
Hello. I just read through your question. The majority of cases are caused by a virus and will, as you say, resolve on its own. However, there is always the possibility of a bacterial infection (ie:strep) which would require antibiotics. I recommend consulting with your doctor to differentiate between these two.
