What Causes A Dry Coating Inside The Mouth?

For several days my mouth feels like it has a dry coating on it. My tongue is quite red and on checking several times I can see no indication of thrush. The sensation on my tongue, cheeks and teeth is like the one you get after eating cooked spinach. It also feels like my teeth want to stick to the inside of my cheeks and lips. I have tried warm salt water rinsed as well as hydrogen peroxide solution rinsed. My tongue is starting to burn with even bland foods. Can you help?

Brief answer: BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME DUE TO DRY MOUTH.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms the sticking of teeth to the cheeks and lips on the inside is caused when the mucosa becomes dry and atrophied and it causes sticking of the teeth to the inner side of cheeks and gums and it occurs in a condition known as DRY MOUTH
The dry mouth can occur due to a few conditions like side effect of medicines like that helps in reducing blood pressure, oral contraceptives, anti convulsants etc, infections like Thrush, Auto-immune diseases like Sjogrens Syndrome, Nerve damage that supplies salivary glands, diseases like HIV/AIDS, uncontrolled diabetes, cancer, surgical removal of salivary glands, clogged ducts of salivary glands, long standing dehydration etc..
This leads to a condition known as Burning Mouth Syndrome in which there is burning pain in mucosal surfaces of mouth and is seen many a times in patients with dry mouth..
The pain can be spontaneous and even on taking low spicy food there is burning in mouth..
The treatment of burning is dependent on treating the underlying cause like for dry mouth you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case if you have any underlying cause of dry mouth get it treated..
For symptomatic relief you can take SALIVA SUBSTITUTES containing methylcellulose and can be instilled multiple times in mouth for lubrication..
SALIVA STIMULANTS like sugar free chewing gums can be chewed to stimulate saliva flow.
Drug like PILOCARPINE can be taken as it helps in stimulating saliva flow and should be taken only after advise by a physician..
Sucking ice pops can help in relieving burning and pain in mouth..
Cold water gargles and gargle with a numbing mouthwash can help..
Avoid hot,spicy,sour and acidic foods..
Take a soft and bland diet..
Drink plenty of water preferably cool....
You should also limit the intake of tea, coffee and areated drinks

Hope this information helps..
