What Causes A Dark Bruise On The Forearm After Treating Poison Ivy?
I was working in yard and later treated for poison ivy last week of June, 2016. About 2 weeks later, I developed a bruise on my forearm. I thought I hit something and wasn t concerned other than the bruise the size larger than a quarter was over what I know to be an old age or liver spot . I am 69. That bruise appeared initially as a dark purple color. It is a month later and the bruise has not gone away except that it is reddish purple and surrounds the liver spot . Because of the new shape (an oval ring), and the amount of time I have had it, I am concerned that it could be lyme. My PC doctor is 75 miles away.
Because the rash has lasted for weeks now, it may be advisable to take antibiotics to be on the safe side, in case this may be erythema migrans due to Lyme disease. You may take one of the following: doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 2-3 weeks or amoxicillin 500 mg three times a day for 2-3 weeks.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
