What Causes Placenta Abruption?

Hi doctor! this is Sumanta from westbengal , India. My wife was carrying for 7 months when she has got Placenta Abruption as a result of which she gave birth to a male baby in just 29 weeks. My baby expired after 20 days. My wife has her BP absolutely normal(110/70) & she did not have any injury. Why did it happen? when could we plan for our next issue? is Placenta Abruption could happen again?

Hi there,

Placental abruption is a complication which cannot be predicted, but can be very debilitating for baby and mother.

Your wife having an abruption at 29 weeks does make her at a high risk for abruption in next pregnancy. Her blood pressure though normal in this pregnancy can be a concern in the next one. She will have to be monitored very thoroughly the next time.

Fetal growth scan and Dopplers to rule out placental insufficiency will be considered.

Also I would like to know if she had a normal delivery or had a caesarean delivery.
Sorry about your loss.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
