What Causes PSVT In Closely Related Individuals?

I was diagnosed when I was 10. When recently discussing our childhood with a recently new friend, I discovered that she has PSVT as well, but was diagnosed as a 14 year old. Her boyfriend (18 years old) was just diagnosed tonight. I am very close to her boyfriend. Is there any relationship to him getting psvt that his two closest companions have it?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi,

- First of all, PSVT is an arrhythmia which affects 1 in 2500 children and is usually related to Wolff- Parkinson- White syndrome.

In most of the patients an accessory pathway (extra pathway) is present which cause tachycardia. This is why PSVT isn't a hereditary condition.

- Secondly, PSVT may be triggered by many conditions and medications, such as:

1. Energy drinks

2. Caffeinated beverages

3. Nicotine

4 Drugs (Ecstasy, Cocaine, Amphetamines etc

5. Alcohol

This is why I strongly recommend avoiding the consumption of the above-mentioned medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
