What Causes Ectopian Pregnancy?

I am 26 years old, married since 1 year.My height is 5 feet 6 inches and weight 69 kgs. I have been detected of PCOD and have been taking medication since the age of 17 for about 5 years time after which I stopped the medication and had very regular periods. After marriage I had to use ipill once and my periods were disturbed, following which I took melmet for around 4 months(till date). In the 4th month we tried and I have been diagnosed as pregnant. My period were due on the 16th of this month and today is 26th. My home urine test showed positive, initially with 2 lines(a very very faint line in the 'T' ) and the line darkened a bit after 2 days, but still faint compared to teh line in 'C'. I have mild pain around my navel, today there is no pain though, and other pregnancy symptoms. My Beta HCG measure 232.003 mIU/ml and my ultrasound is not able to detect any gestational sac(either intra uterine or extra uterine). My doctor asked me to repeat teh HCG in 48 hours to rule out the possibility of ectopian pregnancy. My ultrasound shows that the endometrial echoes are thickened with no evidence of gestational sac. Size: 72x33x44 mm ET: 12mm

I am very worried by hearing about Ectopian pregnancy. I am very confused. Please advice whether this is a intrauterine pregnancy,

Thanks

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion transvaginal ultrasound confirms the ectopic pregnancy. As the gestational sac is not seen extrauterine you might not worry. Also the BHcg values are very less.So I suggest you to repeat the vaginal scan after 2 weeks for better diagnosis.Only Hcg levels do not confirm anything.Ectopic pregnancy presents with failing of doubling of Hcg level every 48 hrs ,pain abdomen with spotting and ultrasound showing sac extrauterine region. So relax.
